Google launched its Font API and directory in May 2010 with 18 open-source typefaces, including Lobster, Droid Sans, Yanone Kaffeesatz and Inconsolata. Alongside Typekit (2009), it ended the era when websites could only use Arial, Verdana, Georgia and Times, and Lobster became the most overused font of the next two years.
